// Tak A Stand Outdoor Exhibition //

Tak A Stand is a result of my final year University project. It started as a small part of my research method, but because of the large response and following, it turned into the main feature of my project.

I wanted to shed light on the normalisation of sexual violence in Orkney, and that despite being named the 'best place to live' it does happen here, and we need to speak about it.
The @tak_a_stand Instagram account was created asking people to anonymously submit their stories of experiencing sexual harassment and violence in the Orkney Islands. Since starting the Instagram account in December last year, we have received over 250 responses, and unfortunately this is expected to grow.

The positive response received for this project was absolutely overwhelming so I decided to create an outdoor exhibition to create an impact that goes beyond the digital space into the real world. The aim of the exhibition is to carry the core values of Tak A Stand into the real world instead of just over Instagram, leaving a lasting impression on people and causing  people to really reflect on their own actions and experiences.

This exhibition is the culmination of Tak A Stand. It was created in the hopes to attract a  wider audience and raise awareness that sexual violence does happen here.
I want to create a local impact in the community for all ages and to challenge the outdated narratives that are still held towards sexual violence and victim blaming today, especially when alcohol is a factor.

This is just the beginning of a much wider campaign.

Will you be a bystander?
